2012 Universtity Games Updates

Results of the various encounters were absent in the Games Newsletter on Monday May 7, 2012. Apparently, there was lack of communication or negligence on the part of some people. In the space for game results, the newsletter’s editors wrote:

“After several attempts to get the U-games results from the FENASU officials, at 9 pm, one official boldly declared that they had closed for the day … and that many persons had approached him. So he was not disposed to make the results available.” It remains to be seen if readers of the Games Newsletter will continue to receive results of the competition.

Preachers Storm Game Venues

The University of Buea campus has suddenly become the temple of various noisy preachers. They put their sound systems at high pitch and even divert the attention of many who turn up to watch the games. It is as if the games should stop and spectators should turn to the ‘evangelists.’ But to whom should they pay attention as there is a subtle competition among the preachers; with each one wanting everyone to listen to them?

Losers In Tears: Where is The Olympic Spirit?

The handball team of the University of Ngaoundere all broke down in tears after an 18-all-tie with the University of Yaounde I on Monday May 7, 2012. But officials had earlier cautioned that it was not professional games where one would want to win at all cost. So, what is happening? Where is the Olympic spirit?

Housekeeping Matters Resolved

Business Booms In Molyko

Pick pockets, makeshift restaurants, ‘njambo’ or chance hunters, jewelry dealers, shoe sellers, fashion dealers, and just any other means of making a living are very active in Molyko since the games opened on Saturday May 5. It is a sign of ingenuity, but beware of pick pockets!

University of Dschang: Wrestling Champions

Ahead of the University of Ngaoundere, Dschang has won gold in the traditional wrestling categories. Dschang’s Ngomsu lifted gold while INJS Yaounde took silver. Dschang also won another gold medal after beating the University of Ngaoundere in wrestling. They certainly have fire in their stomachs!
