Limbe: A New Era For Vocational Training

Thanks to Cameroon – South Korea cooperation, the Limbe Advanced Vocational Training Centre will become functional in 2014.

Day 8, 2012 was a memorable day for the people of Limbe as they witnessed the laying of the foundation stone of the Advanced Vocational Training Centre (AVTC) situated at Bonadikombo near Mile 4. Thanks to South-South cooperation and with the EDCF loan of South Korea, the Centre will become functional in 2014.

Representing the Prime Minister, Head of Government, the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training Mr. Zacharie Perevet hailed the partnership and sustained cooperation ties that exist between Cameroon and South Korea. In his keynote address, the Minister laid emphasis on the Growth and Employment Strategy Paper (GESP) and on the importance of vocational training especially at a time when Cameroon is fast becoming a vast construction site. Minister Perevet noted that the Centre will not only assist job seekers and youths in developing their professional skills, but will share South Korean expertise in vocational training and consequently develop the quality of vocational training in Cameroon.

The Limbe Advanced Vocational Training Centre, he revealed, will offer regular and short-term courses in the domain of welding, plumbing, electricity, woodwork, mechanics, office automation, refrigeration and air-conditioning, hotel and tourism.

While lauding cooperation ties between the two nations, South Korea’s ambassador to Cameroon Mr. Cho Jun Hyuck said the Centre which will be a cradle for quality training of the vocational system, and will play a vital role in Cameroon’s socio-economic development. In the same vein, the Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, Mr. Motanga Andrew Monjimba, in a welcome address, underscored the importance to the Limbe economy and the South West in general of the Centre; noting that it will increase employment opportunities and falls in line with President Biya’s vision of making Cameroon an emerging economy by 2035. It should be noted that project for the establishment of Advanced Vocational Training Centres also exist in Douala and Sangmelima.
