Central Africa: Digitalisation of Grey Literature on Course

A four-day international workshop to that effect ended in Yaounde last Friday May 11.

The Central African region has rich cultural values much of which is not edited. It is in this light that a four-day international workshop on the putting in place of the project for the promotion of grey literature in Central Africa opened in Yaounde on Tuesday May 8.

Organised by the International Centre for Research and Documentation on African Traditions (CERDOTOLA) in collaboration with the University of Brussels, the workshop brought together 11 participants from universities in the Central African sub-region.

The workshop also marks the effective take off of the project for the training of library professionals in universities on the digitalisation of documents. The Yaounde meeting enabled representatives from the different countries to define the common norms of treatment and management of documents, on the one hand, and the management of the digital library in Central Africa on the other hand.

Closing the workshop, the Representative of the Minister of External Relations, Antoine Marie Ngono said diplomatic culture is supported by the government to help preserve the cultural values of the sub-region. At the end of the workshop, participants were handed adequate equipment to begin the process of digitalisation in their respective universities.

Conceived and put in place by CERDOTOLA in collaboration with the University of the Kingdom of Belgium, the project has as objective to realise the digitalisation of Doctorate, Masters Degree thesis from universities in Central Africa.
