The event took place last Saturday at the Yaounde Conference Hall.

Some 150 young Cameroonians last Saturday, May 12 in a solemn ceremony at the Yaounde Conference Hall took an oath which confirmed them as Junior Parliamentarians (MPs) of the United Nations Association for Cameroon. In the presence of Switzerland’s Ambassador to Cameroon and a representative of the Minister of Youths Affairs and Civic Education, the MPs pledged to promote the rights of children particularly those in Cameroon at the international and national levels.

During the oath taking ceremony, the national president of the association, Francois Mbesse Awomo took time to highlight how the Junior Parliamentarians (MPs) of the United Nations Association will work alongside with the government to ensure that Cameroon overcome the challenges of becoming an emerging economy by 2035. With the help and support from the government and other institutions, the MPs will be able to collect information, funds and organise events to promote civic values amongst youths, republican values as well as work with enterprises in a bid to create job opportunities amongst youths.

The Ambassador of Switzerland, Urs Berner said the objectives of the association are clearly supported by his embassy reason why he encouraged the youths to carry out their activities for the Swiss Embassy is behind them. The Representative of the Minister of Youths Affairs and Civic Education, Mrs Rose Dipoko Ewang urged the association’s members to be assiduous while noting that the goals of the association fall alongside those of the Ministry of Youths Affairs and Civic Education to promote youth’s integration and a sense of responsibility in the society.
