Youths March For National Unity

Unitary and national integration marches were organised in all regions on Sunday.

A day after the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Bidoung Mkpatt launched activities leading up to the 40th anniversary of Cameroon’s unitary State in Akwa and Isangele in the Bakassi Peninsula, Ndian Division of the South West Region, youths from all over the country yesterday, May 13, organised unitary marches along the streets of regional headquarters in the country. The events intended to show the attachment of youths to national unity, integration and republican values, were organised by the Regional Delegations of Youth Affairs and Civic Education.

Indeed, all efforts are being deployed to make the civilian part of the 40th anniversary of Cameroon’s unitary State on May 20, 2012 a grandiosely historic event. It is the first in President Paul Biya’s seven-year term of office placed under the banner of “Major Accomplishments”, intended to make Cameroon an emerging country by 2035.

The activities in the nation’s capital, Yaounde lasted for over one hour 30 minutes. Under the coordination of the Centre Regional Delegate for Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mbida Olinga, some 300 youths marched from the Reunification Monument through the EMIA Junction to the roundabout in front of the Central Post Office in down town Yaounde. The youths were drawn from some educational establishments in the city and the Youth Empowerment Centre in Madagascar neighbourhood. The band of the National Institute of Youths and Sports animated the event.
