The list is the same as the one against Guinea Bissau but for the addition of five new names.
As was expected the coach of the Indomitable Lions, yesterday in a press conference at the Mont Febe hotel in Yaounde, published the list of players to defend the national colours in the campaign for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and 2014 World Cup in this crucial month of June.
The list of 26 players is the same as the one for the last encounter against Guinea Bissau but for the addition of five new players including Enoh Eyong, Kana Biyik, Mbuta Adoncho, Yannick Ndjeng and Overtoom Williams. Justifying the list, Denis Lavagne said he didn’t want to make many changes since the team doesn’t train often and the stakes of the matches are high. He however promised to inject new blood from time to time and give them time to find their mark in the squad before calling on new ones.
The bulk of the added players are making their return to the national selection whereas others like Overtoom are in their maiden selection. Among the returnees are Enoh Eyong and Mbuta Williams. Eyong Enoh is making his return after having served a two- month suspension following the Marrakech Gate scandal in which the vice-captain and captain, Eto’o were held to bell the cat after the lions boycotted a friendly match against Algeria.
After a long period of absence following his lack of a club, Mbuta Andoncho, has been called up once more by Dennis Lavagne following his signing with Syrianska. Overtoom Williams, who has a dual nationality, is the new kid on the block after having received clearance from FIFA to play for Cameroon, having played with the Dutch team in the junior category. The names of Nicolas Nkoulou and Stephane Mbia feature on the list despite the fact that they are injured. Quizzed on the issue, Denis Lavagne said the players will be doing a lot of reanimation exercises and may not be ready for the encounter against D.R. Congo but ready for the last two matches against Libya and Guinea Bissau.
Meanwhile the coach also outlined his training programme ahead of the upcoming crucial games. The training camp begins on May 19 in Metz France and shall be punctuated by a friendly encounter against the Syli national of Guinea Conakry on May 26. After which the Lions will head home to prepare for the World Cup qualifier against the Democratic republic of Congo on June 2nd. Thence, the lions travel to Sfax-Tunisia to prepare for another world Cup qualifier challenge against the Knights of the Mediterranean, Libya on June 9 and immediately after head back home to receive Foxes of Guinea Bissau in an encounter counting for the return leg of the 2013 Africa cup of Nations qualifiers at the Mfandena sports complex in Yaounde on June 16.
