Nearly all roads in the Douala city centre have become worksites, causing traffic congestion.

The city of Douala is receiving a facelift with the improvement of the road network. In its mission to render Douala more beautiful, the Douala City Council, CUD, is awarding contracts for the purpose.

MAG road construction company has won the contract to rehabilitate Le Boulevard de la République in Akwa. The road passes through Lycée d’Akwa, Salle des fêtes, Beneficial Life, and several other popular business centres.

The site engineer, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Cameroon Tribune that the road under renovation is 4.7 kilometres long. The old tar has been scrapped and the surface covered with laterite, making it smooth. The engineer said one kilometre out of the 4.7 km will be covered with paved blocks, while the remaining 3.7 km will be covered with bituminous concrete. The engineer refused to disclose how long the work was expected to take.
