MINREX, UNHCR Discuss Refugees’ Plight

The Resident Representative of the UN High Commission for Refugees was received by MINREX boss Tuesday.

Cameroon now host over 100,000 refugees. 450 of them are seeking asylum. The issue was of concern on May 15, 2012 during the presentation of Letters of Introduction by the new Resident Representative of the UN High Commission for Refugees, Ndeye Ndiougue Ndour to the Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo.

While discussing the plight of refugees in Cameroon, the new Commissioner reiterated the will of the Commission to stand by and assist government in changing the predicament of refugees while fostering integration and development in the country. She assured the Minister of continuous support to local areas hosting refugees.

Born on November 29, 1958 in Senegal, Ndeye Ndiougue Ndour has occupied several positions of responsibility under the UN High Commission for Refugees in Congo Kinshasa, Liberia, Mali, Sierra Leone and Geneva.

External Relations Minister equally received advanced copies of Letters of Credence from the New Ambassador of Congo to Cameroon, Gisele Bouanga-Kalou. She is a seasoned diplomat whose rich academic profile earned her recognition in many spheres before she entered high profile posts in government. Gisele Bouanga-Kalou was in 2006 sent to Paris, France where she was Adviser at the embassy of Congo on Cultural and Francophonie Affairs.
