The 34^th batch trained in five specialties.

One hundred seventy four fresh trainees of the Buea-based Intensive Vocational Training Centre (IVTC) have passed out this year after majoring in five areas. The courses included Computerised Accounting with 42 students, Computer Maintenance with 17, Bilingual Secretaryship 39, Accounting and Management 42, and Office Automation Secretaryship with 34 students.

The graduation of the 34^th batch was organised in the institution’s campus on May 25 under the chairmanship of Mrs. Ekotto Jeanne, representing the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training. She urged the staff and students to imbibe hard work and perseverance and praised the centre’s head for her diligence in maintaining training standards.

IVTC head, Mrs. Becky Effoe Limunga, pleaded with government to provide a bus for the school to facilitate the follow up of students on internship. She called for the centre to be equipped regularly to keep abreast with evolving technology and to meet the increasing enrolment. Mrs. Limunga rejoiced at the fact that among the 25,000 people recruited by the State last year, there were former students of IVTC. She praised the Buea Council for their continuous support. She advised the graduating trainees to match the qualities of patience, loyalty and efficiency with hard work.

IVTC was created in the pre-independence days as Clerical School to train staff to replace expatriates after Cameroon’s independence. Products of the Clerical School – now IVTC - have done well both in the Cameroon Public Service and in international entrepreneurship. Outstanding students took home prizes in such categories as “Best all round,” “Best delegate,” “Best behaved,” “Most punctual,” “Neatest,” “Most co-operative,” and “Best sport.”
