Arrested on May 26, Anye Ephraim is accused of attacking a former Buea Judicial Police Chief last year.

The questioning of five armed robbery suspects recently nabbed in various neighbourhoods of Douala has uncovered one of the assailants of former Buea Judicial Police Chief, Ajofoing Peter Ndinga, early last year.

Since news of the arrests broke out in Douala, slum residents of Mambanda and Bamboutos in Bonaberi have heaved some sigh of relief following a series of heinous attacks by men of the underworld that had turned their communities into no-go areas at certain hours of night. Police transferred the accused to the Douala Military Tribunal on charges of murder, terror, and illegal possession of firearms.

Handcuffed to two other suspected accomplices, Anye Ephraim confessed to shooting Ajofoing Peter Ndinga in his home in an attempt to avenge the arrest and detention of his cohorts. Before Ajofoing was rushed to hospital that night where he later recovered from the injury after some weeks, the robbers clashed with the police, leaving two robbers dead while Anye Ephraim narrowly escaped.

He later led a new gang that engaged in a series of robberies across slum neighbourhoods, finance institutions and street assaults in Douala; operating from a hideout in Mambanda as confirmed by four written complaints to the police by affected residents.

Arrested that same May 26 were Che Ramson, aged 29, Tchokote Julio alias Zidane, 23, Njouh Ferdinand Chia alias Yoroboy, 26 and Tabeng Romeo alias Bamenda, 35. They were caught with two automatic pistols, cartridges, among other common weapons. Their zone of activity was Douala and Buea in the South West Region, where complainants reported several millions, cellphones, laptop computers, jewellery and other property stolen.
