The three girls and boy have an average weight of 1.9 kilogrammes.
Carole Mfoumou Zing, 23, is the happy mother of quadruplets. She gave birth at the Yaounde Gynaeco-Obstetrics Hospital, Ngoussou on Monday June 11, 2012.
For the past four days, Cameroonians of all walks of life have been flocking to the hospital to see the quadruplets. The babies (three girls and a boy) weigh 2.1kg, 1.9kg, 1.8kg and 1.8kg. The happy mother is presently in the reanimation ward.
The mother in-law, Christine Ntoutou Mva Ebeme, who resides in Ebolowa in the South Region, said it all began in January 2012 when Christine was 16 weeks pregnant and she took her to hospital for prenatal consultation. Ecography results showed that Christine was pregnant with quadruplets. She later brought her to the Yaounde Gynaeco-Obstetric Hospital where she received good follow up until last Monday when she gave birth by Caesarean section.
Dr. Séraphin Fokoua, head of the Maternity Unit said Carole was regular with her consultations. He said the lady was delivered by Caesarean section because of the enlargement of the uterus. “When the uterus is over enlarged, it cannot contract well. Also, the babies are not in good position to come out normally,’ he said. He further explained that a team of gynaecologists operated upon her in the 36th week of pregnancy instead of the 37th which is the normal period for maturity. He said the babies were healthy and normal and what is needed is physical and financial support for them.
Christine Ntoutou Mva Ebeme complained of financial difficulties. She said she had requested assistance from the Chantal Biya Foundation, the Ministries of Public Health and Social Affairs since January 2012 but was yet to get any response. She used the opportunity to call for assistance from well wishers to enable the children to survive.
