Kribi : Update On The Work In Progress

About four months after the foundation stone of the Kribi deep-water port was officially laid, the work is progressing satisfactorily on the Mboro site, about thirty km from Kribi.

To begin with, the base camp of the China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (Chec Ltd) is completed and has already started hosting workers.

According to this company, land and sea surveys as well as the preliminary design have been completed.

The progress of these construction works is even more visible with regard to the protective dike. The latter is expected to measure 1355 m on completion, out of which about 240 m, i.e. about 17%, have been reclaimed from the sea. The headway made is also perceptible on the water body. While the swell is rather strong on one side of the dike, the sea is calm on the other side.

The deployment of security forces, notably the Rapid Reaction Force (Bir), around the site, is perceptible both on the ground and in the water body. Security is also provided for the project managers' accommodation in Kribi. Besides, according to a local official, a police station was recently set up following the visit of the Deputy Minister in charge of Defence.
