Cameroon Prepares Climate change Adaptation Plan

The procedure for the drafting of the national plan was launched in Yaounde on Friday June 15.

The fight against climate change is a public security problem in Cameroon. It is in this light that the procedure for the drafting of a National Adaptation Plan on Climate Change was launched in Yaounde on Friday, June 15.

Speaking during the occasion, the Minister of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development, Hele Pierre, said the ministry will take necessary measures to ensure favourable conditions for participation and learning in the plan for all the stakeholders. He called on participants to make pertinent recommendations for the smooth execution of the plan.

The National Adaptation Plan on Climate Change is an instrument for defining priority adaptation activities in the short, medium and long term and outlining practical modalities for their execution. It aims at increasing the capacity of socio-economic actors to mitigate changes in climate.

Also at the launch, three agreements were signed between the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Transport, UNDP and UNESCO. The drafting of the National Adaptation Plan on Climate Change will be financed by the Japanese government.
