Cameroon’s Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Louis Paul Motaze, is getting ready to visit China to start talks with China that in turn would give the country blanket powers to construct the first deep sea port of Western Africa with the most modern facilities and amenities in Kribi.
The communication officer of Motaze spoke to the press regarding the Ministers travel plans.
“During [Motaze's] visit to China, clearer decisions would be made to seal the deal,” Jean Atangana told the members of the press on Monday.
Earlier Monday, China’s Vice Minister of Transport Gao Hongfeng said his government is planning to take up the building of the port in Kribi, state-run Cameroon Radio Television reported.
“We aim to carry out this project with the government of Cameroon,” Hongfeng said. “China wants to share her experience in this domain with Cameroon.”

Hongfeng had some talks with Paul Motaze and both of them following the negotiations made a tour to the site of the port.
The site is situated around 300 kilometers south of Yaounde, the Kribi deep seaport, is expected to be budgeted around 500 billion CFA francs [$980 million], is especially important for the transport of Cameroon’s iron ore, alumina and other minerals.
It will also provide a way for commodities in the country and neighboring Chad and the Central African Republic, all of which don’t have their own seaport and are heavily dependent on Cameroon for exports and imports.
