COSADER handed over 10 tonnes of corn and beans to FAO and WFP in Yaounde.

Groups of Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) for Food Security and Rural Development of Cameroon (COSADER), which is the focal point of the Network of the National Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition in Francophone Africa has on behalf of the National Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition in Cameroon, handed over 10 tonnes of corn and beans to the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) meant for Somalia.
The consignment of food stuffs is the fruit of a protocol agreement signed between COSADER and FAO for the supply of tonnes of corn and beans to victims of hunger at the horn of Africa. The 40,000 dollar project (about FCFA 20.7 million) is financed by FAO.
The consignment of food stuffs was handed over in the presence of the Country Director of Himilo Relief Development Association (HIRDA), which is the leading organisation of the Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition in Somalia, Matan Abdullahi Dahir. The Country Director of HIRDA who is in Cameroon to draw inspiration from the Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition in Cameroon said the food will safe thousands of lives in Somalia. “This 10 tonnes of corn and beans will help more than 20,000 displaced families in Somalia”, he pointed out.
According to the President of, Christine Andela, the critical situation of hunger in Somalia last year, made member countries to conceive the idea and work in solidarity to reach out to Somalia. She added that the consignment of food stuffs will take a period of three weeks to reach Somalia, since it will be transported by sea. During the symbolic hand over, Abdourohman Zourmba, in charge of information in FAO Cameroon said the goal of FAO is to ensure food security and he hoped that the food arrived Somalia sooner and help reduce hunger.
