Renaissance Takes Comfortable Lead In Cup Of Cameroon

They beat New Stars3-1 in the away leg quarter-final yesterday in Yaounde.

Renaissance of Ngoumou has taken a good option towards qualifying for the semi-finals of the Cup of Cameroon. They beat New Stars of Douala 3-1 in the away leg quarter-final at the Ahmadou Ahidjo yesterday thereby taking a comfortable lead towards obtaining a semi-final berth. The match witnessed Renaissance in their entire splendour as they exercised domination over ball control, taking several initiatives upfront which ended up paying.

Renaissance got the curtain raiser from the penalty spot at the 30th minute through Bassilekin Landry who beat goal keeper Bokwe Georges Motase on the second trial after the first failed trail was cancelled by the linesman because the goalkeeper bulged. The second goal which was the fruit of a collective action came about ten minutes later when Anaba Metogo gave a soft touch of the ball that slid underneath the goalkeeper. At half time the score board read 2-0 in favour of Renaissance and many expected that New Stars would rectify the mistake upon resumption of play but it was Renaissance again who found the back of the net again Seini Abdoul finished a well-organized attack worthy of international standards to make three for Renaissance and zero for New Stars.

New stars however a got the consolatory goal from the penalty spot also through Boumsong. According to an irritated Faustin Domkeu, president of New Stars, his team was simply not able to play their game even though he disputed the validity of the first penalty that gave the curtain raiser. He promised that heads will roll following the defeat suffered against Renaissance. Despite the comfortable lead, the general manager of Renaissance Ngoumou, Michel Abena, remains cautious and warns his players not to lie on the laurels as the two-goal advantage is not enough. “The players have to consider that nothing is won yet and continue the battle till the final whistle in a fortnight. Meanwhile in the other quarter-final matches played elsewhere on the national territory, Sable edged Panthere 1-0, while Unisport and Astres separated on a one-all tie.
