The rapid Intervention Unit, Naval Base, gendarmerie Legion and 10th military sector were concerned.
Four recently appointed top ranking officials of the military corps were simultaneously commissioned during a colourful ceremony at the Buea ceremonial ground on Wednesday July 11. The event presided at by the Secretary of State for Defense in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Jean Baptiste Bokam, brought together various stakeholders and well wishers.
In his installation address, Jean Baptiste Bokam gave a detailed profile of the four different officials who have held several posts of responsibility within the military corps. Being seasoned officers, they equally have honourific distinctions to their credit. They are Colonel Ekwaingen Michael, presently the Commander of the Tiko Rapid Intervention Unit; Colonel Ngassom Emasom in charge of the Limbe Naval Base; while Colonel Soulemanou Massokano takes over as the Gendarmerie Legion Commander for South West, and Colonel Mendjana Jean Tobie to head the Buea 10th military sector.
As concerns their duties, an outline of both their general and specific responsibilities was presented. The Secretary of State for Defense charged them to ensure the principle of proximity in rendering their services to the public. He urged them to undertake their duties seriously given the particularity of the South West Region based on its vast maritime access, agricultural exploitation, its cosmopolitan population, amongst others. Similarly, the judicious use of available resources at their disposal is a prerequisite to effective output on the field. Another issue he hammered on is information gathering and transmission which conditions the ability to pre-empt unforeseen circumstances. Among other things, the military officials in their respective capacities have a duty to ensure the security of both persons and goods, ensure road safety and security on highways and trustworthy collaboration with the local population.
