Though Cameroon is in its first participation in the female football tournament at the Olympic Games, the Lionesses are going to face the Brazilians with optimism, their confidence capital having been boosted by their recent successes at the African Games in Maputo, qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations and good results obtained during the second phase of their training in Scotland. While in Scotland, the Lionesses played three friendly matches, won two and lost one. They beat Scotland 2-0, bowed 0-2 to Ireland and trounced a selection from the University of Aberdeen 6-0 in their last test match last Thursday. More so, Cameroon got her ticket to London beat butting out a heavy weight in feminine football on the African continent. They defeated Nigeria 4-3 on penalties after their duel had finished 3-3 on aggregate.
Like their male counterparts in Sydney 2000, the Lionesses are determined to defy forecasts and clinch the Olympic gold in their first attempt although the African continent has won only one match at previous Women's Olympic Football Tournaments. "I believe in this group I have patiently built. We made it to the Olympics by eliminating Nigeria, which is one of the best teams in Africa and even one of the best in the world," said Coach Enow Ngatchu. After the Brazilian hurdle, the Lionesses have another hard nut to crack on July 28th in Cardiff as they face host nation, Britain in the second group game before travelling to Coventry to take on little Known New Zealand in the last group game on July 31st.
