2012 London Olympics Tit-Bits

African Village Attracts

Alongside the Olympic Games in London, African countries are showcasing their savoir-faire. At the Olympic Village in Kensington, several stands have been erected with that of Cameroon prominent. To better send across their messages, organizers of the event, Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, have put in place a programme that gives a day to each country to x-ray her cultural, economic and social potentials. Several Heads of State, including Côte d’Ivoire’s Alassane Ouattara have visited the village. Team Cameroon will be at the forefront on Thursday. The show will end on August 12, 2012.

Tickets Wrangling Continues

International sports federations are under pressure by the London 2012 Organising Committee to release unwanted Olympic tickets in a bid to end controversy about empty seats. Between 5 to 15 per cent of tickets for each event are allocated to international sport federations and their national federations’ membership. Since most of the tickets are not being used, the Local Organising Committee is calling on the body to make them available to fans. Since the start of the games, most fans, especially visitors, have been going through hell to grab tickets whereas the stands are empty.

Food Shortage at the Olympic Village

Food and drinks shortages have been reported at the Olympic Village. On Monday July 30, several fans queued up for hours in front of stalls waiting for supplies. The shortage comes on the heels of several disturbing organisational problems. At the start of the week, six keys of Wembley Stadium were stolen while some cash distributing machines stopped working.

Olympic Boxing Referee Dies
