2012 London Olympics Tit-Bits

Michael Phelps Admits Peeing in Pool

Eighteen times Olympic gold medallist Michael Phelps admitted that he often pee in the pool. The champion swimmer, who is retiring from competitive swimming after his success in the London Olympics, told the Wall Street Journal that professional swimmers didn't bother clambering out to search for a toilet. "I think everybody pees in the pool," he said. "It's kind of a normal thing to do with swimmers. You know, when we're in the water for two hours we don't really get out to pee. We just go whenever we're on the wall. Chlorine kills it so it's not bad."

South Korea Sends Home Drunken Coach

South Korea’s sailing coach Lee Jae Cheol is en route to Seoul after being charged with drink-driving. The trainer had been at a banquet hosted by the mayor of Weymouth, the host town for the Olympic sailing regatta. He was caught drunk driving by the police when he was returning alone to the athletes' village at 5a.m. The Korea Olympic Committee sent him packing as "an exemplary punishment".

US Judoka Expelled

US judo fighter Nick Delpopolo has been expelled from the Olympics after testing positive for marijuana he said he ate accidentally. An official of the International Olympic committee who made public the expulsion to the press said “substances are sometimes taken 'for reasons other than going higher, faster or stronger - it might be to calm them down.” His expulsion brings to three the number athletes tested positive since the start of the games.

Olympic Fan Dies

An Olympics fan has died after suffering a suspected heart attack while watching the cycling. Conrad Readman, from Colchester, had booked two weeks off work and had tickets for events on every day of the Olympics. After watching the opening ceremony and many of the games, the 49-year-old visited the Velodrome on Friday to watch the men's team pursuit. He was discovered ill in the venue's toilets at 6.15p.m and taken to the hospital where he died.
