Diplomacy: China Pledges to Stand By Cameroon

Outgoing Chinese Ambassador, Xue Jinwei spoke at a State dinner on Thursday in Yaounde.

The outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon, Xue Jinwei has stressed the need for both countries to work together to implement the decisions of the recent China-Africa Forum. Speaking at the Yaounde Mont Febe Hotel on Friday August 10 at a State dinner hosted by the representative of the Head of State and Minister of External Relations, Prof. Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, the diplomat promised China’s readiness to continue to support Cameroon in her development initiatives.

Ambassador Xue described his two and half-year tenure in the country as a success, attributing it to the win-win spirit on which he said relations were based. With such a spirit, the two sides can continue cooperating and working together to improve ties, he said.

He expressed hope that his replacement will continue from where he ended especially as the new Ambassador is arriving at a time of intensified relations between the two countries. Ambassador Xue Jinwei also credited the success of his tour of duty to the support of President Biya and his government, adding that his tenure witnessed several high-level exchange visits that enabled bilateral relations to enter a new gear.

Speaking earlier, Minister Moukoko commended Chinese people for their culture of hard work that has today made the country the world’s third largest economy; a source of inspiration to Cameroonians, he said. Recalling his recent trip to Beijing for the China-Africa Forum, he said it helped in advancing ongoing projects and plans for new ones.

The dividends of longstanding good bilateral ties, the Minister said, include securing funding for the construction of the Kribi Deep Seaport, Memve’ele Dam and the acquisition of equipment for the National Civil Engineering Equipment Pool, MATGENIE, and offer of scholarships to Cameroonian students. The Ambassador was decorated with the medal of Grand Officer of the National Order of Valour by Prof. Moukoko and offered a gift on behalf of the Head of State.

Among Cameroonian dignitaries present at the event were the Special Adviser at the Presidency in charge of Diplomatic Affairs, Mrs. Yvette Koloko, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o, the Minister Delegate in the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Islamic World, Adoum Gargoum and Nganou Djoumessi, Minister of Economic Planning and Regional Development. Others were the Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda, Robert Nkili of Transport and Patrice Amba Salla of Public Works.
