This is within the frame of a workshop to run from August 2 to 26.
For the time in Africa, blind people are being introduced to shooting sport. The move is the brain child of the Cameroon Shooting Sport federation who solicited French expertise in collaboration with the federation of blind and visually impaired people. Over twenty athletes of the federation of blind and visually impaired are taking part in the training which began on August 2nd and will end on August 26th with the championship and Cup finals as well as the Grand Prix Cheihk Salman. Describing the operation, the facilitator of the course, Philippe Balandier, say the blind athlete is assisted by an apparatus which transforms laser rays to sound in a headset put on by the athlete. The sound get lauder as the shooter moves away from the target and gets faint when the shooter moves the nose of his or her gun towards the target.
On the side-lines of initiation process, is a refresher course for valid athletes conducted by the same Philippe Balandier who is on his third visit to Cameroon and runs a shooting sport school in the country. The best eleven athletes from the competitions that will follow, including the Garnd Prix Cheihk Salman, will take part in the upcoming African Games in Cairo-Egypt in 2013. Balandier who was accompanied by a shooting sport professional, Romain Chavallard, promised to buy equipment for athletes who will qualify for the African Games adding that he will recommend promising athletes for shooting sport school in Europe where they would train within up to date infrastructures. It is worth mentioning that athlete could exercise on a homologated shooting sport stand for the first time in the country and saw a completely dressed shooting sport athlete with the required outfit for the very first time in Cameroon also. Meanwhile, the defending championship, IP2 Mboule Isaac of the security services of the Israeli embassy will be putting his title to test
