Feast of Ramadan: Muslims Pray For Peace

Thousands of faithfuls attended prayers in Yaounde on sunday to mark the start of the feast.

Muslims in Cameroon have been told that they live in happiness and should, as a duty, work hand in glove for good, justice and peace. Furthermore, they were told not to tolerate neither corruption nor engage in anything that will disturb security or sow division amongst themselves. The call was made by Imam Ahmed Al Jilany from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while presiding over prayers at the Tsinga Islamic Complex to celebrate the Ramadan Feast, on Sunday August 19, 2012.

Speaking to thousands of faithfuls that crowded the prayer ground in beautiful robes and “gandouras”, the Imam said for one month, he had travelled around the country and seen its beauty, peace and security. “The Muslim in this country lives a generous life, he adores his Lord in all quietness and tranquility,” he said. The prayer marked the end of a month of fasting. To that effect, Imam Ahmed Al Jilany congratulated the Muslim faithfuls saying “By Allah’s Grace, you will be rewarded for fasting, nightly devotions and you will reap what you have sown.”

He reminded them that Islam is a simple religion of tolerance, grace, compassion, peace and tranquility. Islam preconises noble characters and behaviours and forbids killing of human beings. “Faithfuls of this religion believe in all prophets and messengers. They show faith in Moses to Jesus to Mohammed and to the rest of messengers, he said before calling on them to exercise fraternity, friendship and forgiveness throughout the celebration that followed the end of the prayer.

The same message was echoed by other Imams to faithfuls who gathered in different prayer grounds and mosques in Yaounde for the early Morning Prayer.
