The anti-corruption project, Rapid Results Initiative (RRI), which went underway in the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family in July 2011, was launched in the Subdivisions of Douala I and V on Friday August 31st.
The main objective was to improve the income-generation strength by Women Promotion Centres (CPF), according to the Director of CPF Douala I, Angèle Mbogbe. The ministry identified lack of transparency in handling finances generated by the Centres and slow recovery of microcredits to women as plaguing the Ministry.
Nkamchor Emilia, the Ministry’s N°1 Inspector, warned that the Centre will be tested after 100 days based on experimental results obtained from Centres in Yaounde II, IV and V, Pouma, Douala I and V. A mid-term evaluation will be carried out 50 days after kick-off to assess its functioning and effectiveness to determine its extension throughout the territory.
A team has been trained to carry out the project in the two Subdivisions. They will neither be inspecting, nor investigating into embezzlement and corruption to impute charges as thought by many, but they will train collaborators to better manage income with focus on improving working conditions of workers and quality of service the Centres offer.
