Workers of Transformation Reef Cameroon Want Rights Paid

The move was triggered by imminent closure of the company’s Bonaberi branch last week.

Several employees of Transformation Reef Cameroon (TRC), a company specialised in the transformation of wood in Douala, marched to and held the premises of the Littoral Governor’s Office hostage to protest a planned closure of a part of the outfit, without first settling their social rights that go with it. The workers refused working last Friday and Saturday, but resumed Monday.

Protesters say they were aggrieved by the fact that no payment plans have been made for their financial rights as company’s executive proceeds with the planned closure. Senior staff at the company headquarters in Bassa refused commenting on why the decision to close the Bonaberi branch of the outfit was necessary.

The Chief Executive of the Littoral calmed the placard-bearing protesters, reasons why they returned to work early this week.

Waves of not being satisfied still ran through the workers in spite of the promise. Some of them CT talked to Monday expressed their disappointment with the promise of their Dutch-born General Manager, Paul Reef. They said the calm is just for a while, but that they would resume the protest move if payment of the rights were not met in the near future.
