US Presdient Barack Obama Urges Patience

He spoke on Thursday September 6 at the end of the party convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Incumbent US President and candidate of the Democratic Party at November’s presidential election, Barack Obama, yesterday September 6 called for patience on the performance of the economy. He was speaking in an acceptance speech in Charlotte, North Carolina at the end of the Democratic Party’s nomination convention.

President Obama acknowledged that while progress was slow, he is taking the United States to a better future, promising to be a better President over the next four years, the New York Times said.

Severe weather forecasts however put a damp on President Barack Obama’s acceptance speech, forcing organizers to move the event from the 74,000-capacity Bank of America Stadium to the approximately 20,000-seat Time Warner Cable Arena – an indoor venue - Reuters news agency said. Weather forecasters had warned against the possibility of thunderstorms last night in Charlotte. The town has experienced heavy evening rains in the last few days.

Obama had hoped to create a visual spectacle in the outdoor stadium to rival his 2008 acceptance speech in a football stadium in Denver. The decision disappointed tens of thousands of his supporters from around the country who had been given tickets to the biggest speech in his campaign for the November 6 election against Republican rival, Mitt Romney.

Speaking earlier on Wednesday September 5 at the convention, former President Bill Clinton after nominating Obama for the presidential race, appealed to Americans to vote for him, saying Obama inherited a damaged economy that is already on the way to recovery. He said the foundation had already been laid for a more modern, well-balanced economy that will produce millions of good new jobs, vibrant new businesses and lots of new wealth for innovators, the Associated Press reported.

Bill Clinton told Americans he believes with all his heart that President Barack Obama saved the economy, leaving them better off than four years ago, and should be re-elected. Al Jazeera Television said Obama came over to Clinton after the speech to personally thank him, and to show that they are the closest of friends.
