Prime Minister Philemon Yang had discussions with Morocco’s Foreign Minister last Friday.

The second session of the Cameroon-Morocco Joint Cooperation Commission that ended in Yaounde on September 7, 2012, signals a new take off in relations between the two countries, taking into account the new cooperation agreements signed. The Moroccan Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister, Saad Dine El Otmani made the declaration after discussions with Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Philemon Yang during which the two officials reviewed bilateral relations and the way forward in strengthening cooperation.

Talking to the press after the in-camera discussions with Prime Minister Yang, the Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister described Cameroon-Morocco cooperation with diplomatic relations established at the level of Ambassadors in 1966, as “very successful.” He said politically, the two countries had converging ideas with regard to regional and internationally issues. In the economic domain, the Moroccan senior government official said there were increasing trade exchanges between the two countries. Saad Dine El Otmani disclosed Moroccan investments in Cameroon in the housing, industry, finance and banking and potable water supply sectors.

Cultural and educational cooperation between Cameroon and Morocco, the Foreign Affairs Minister said is translated through the training of hundreds of Cameroonian senior staff in Morocco. The country also offers Cameroonian students 35 scholarships every year and trains Cameroonian technicians in diverse sectors. “We are trying to transfer Moroccan technological know-how to Cameroon,” the Minister said.
