Journalists Urged To Respect Ethics

Mgr. Joseph Befe Ateba made the call yesterday during a press briefing in Yaounde.

Journalists in Cameroon have been urged to be responsible in the exercise of their profession. The call was made during a press briefing in Yaounde yesterday September 11, 2012.

Speaking at the occasion, the President of the National Communication Council, Mgr. Joseph Befe Ateba, said since the advent of the 1990 law on communication, journalists have in the past two decades failed to respect the ethics of the profession. He warned that media houses in Cameroon which do not respect ethics will be shut down.

The press briefing was in prelude to the first national seminar to be organised by the National Communication Council (CNC) from Thursday 13th to Friday 14th September in Yaounde. He said the seminar will be an opportunity for journalists and the public to better understand the powers of the National Communication Council.

For two days, over 300 participants from across the country will listen to lectures on themes such as the need for a regulatory authority in communication, ethics in communication, as well as journalism and the respect of the laws of the land, among others.
