The campaign, taking place at Bibong-Bidoum in the Mbankomo Sub-division ends tomorrow.

Within the Samsung Employee Volunteer Programme, some 40 South Koreans from Samsung Electronics and Samsung Medicines have taken off time in their various duty posts to visit Namoyos (Bibong-Bidoum) a peripheral village near Yaounde in the Mbankomo Sub-division of the Centre Region to provide the much needed medical support.

Since September 9 at the “L’Amitié” Private Nursery and Primary School in the village, a Joint Volunteers Outreach medical centre has been set up by Samsung and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) in partnership with African Synergy against AIDS and Suffering and the Ministry of Public Health. The campaign which ends tomorrow, September 12 was officially opened yesterday, September 10 at the Bibong-Bidoum village. Parents have not only been encouraged to bring their children to the campaign centre but will also benefit from the campaign for as it is said, healthy parents will raise healthy children.

At the “L’Amitié” school premises, an exciting crowd of Bibong-Bidoum villagers, mostly children were going through medical consultation conducted by six medical doctors, four nurses and a pharmacist from Samsung Medicines. The Head of the Samsung Medical Aid, Taemin Choi said since the operation started, they have examined some 400 people in the locality. He explained “we are consulting patients on various health problems, testing their haemoglobin for anaemia, undergoing screening for HIV as well as malaria.”

Those who present other health problems are also given medical care. The medical team also provides drugs to those in need. Before the end of the campaign, the organisers hope to have consulted some 1,000 people in the locality. Kea’ Modimoeng of Samsung said because Samsung has just set up their business operations in Cameroon, they want to make sure that they do not only sell goods to people but also that they do business in a healthy environment.

The Country Representative of Koica, Ra Kap Chae used the occasion to laud the partnership between Samsung, Koica and African Synergy Against AIDS and Suffering. He said the partnership is an assurance that while pulling together, they can achieve more in Africa. Ra Kap Chae hoped that the link amongst the organisers is a new lasting relationship that reinforces cooperation between Cameroon and Korea. The Representative of Koica also used the occasion to highlight some of the developmental projects his agency is carrying out in Cameroon.
