Felix Mbayu Confirmed as External Relations SG

Before the September 14 appointment, he was the acting Secretary General.

“I received my appointment with a lot of humility, joy and gratefulness, first of all to the Head of State for giving me the opportunity to serve and for having found me worthy and capable of serving.” These were the words Felix Mbayu, Minister Plenipotentiary super scale, the new Secretary General of the Ministry of External Relations appointed by President Paul Biya on Friday, September 14, 2012 used in describing the news of the appointment.

Before Friday’s appointment, Felix Mbayu was the acting Secretary General of the Ministry of External Relations for nine months and Director of the Commonwealth Department for the past six years. He was born on April 11, 1957. He graduated from the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC) in 1981, coming first in his batch. From school, he worked in the Ministry of External Relations where he was appointed Sub-director in 1985. In 1988, he was appointed Counsellor in the Cameroon Embassy in Japan, he later on rose to the position of Chargé d’Affaires of Cameroon in Tokyo, Japan covering six countries that included: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and South Korea for seven, years.

He left Tokyo for New York, USA where he served as Minister Counsellor, particularly during Cameroon’s mandates in the Economic and Social Council and also in the Security Council. With the promotion, he said, “A sense of duty, humility and service are all the sentiments that now animate me.”
