Diplomacy: Cameroon, China To Discuss New Projects

Chinese on September 28 in Yaounde celebrated 63 years of the founding of their nation.

The governments of Cameroon and China will soon meet to determine new projects to be executed in the country as part of the promise of 20 billion US dollars (about FCFA 10, 205 billion) made to African countries in the next three years by Chinese President, Hu Jintao, at last July’s Forum on China-African Cooperation in Beijing, China.

Speaking at a reception in the Yaounde Hilton Hotel on Friday September 28 to mark the 63rd anniversary of the Chinese People’s Republic, the country’s new Ambassador to Cameroon, Wo Ruidi, recalled that the money is for the development of infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing industries and small and medium-size enterprises. Ambassador Ruidi expressed confidence that with the execution of these projects, cooperation between China and Africa will be deepened.

Describing Cameroon as a long-time brother, friend and one of China’s most important partners in Africa, the diplomat spoke of the imminent celebration by Cameroon of the Golden Jubilee of its Reunification. He said the celebration will mark a new dawn for the country with its leader, President Paul Biya resolutely engaged in the Greater Achievements policy. He said his country was confident that under President Biya’s leadership, Cameroonians will continue to know more and more better times.

As one of Cameroon’s faithful development partners, he promised China’s support in enabling the country realise its dream of emergence by 2035. The new Chinese Ambassador who is only a month old in the country, promised to use his good offices to give new meaning to the win-win partnership between the two countries. On his country, Ambassador Wo Ruidi revealed that the Chinese Communist Party that celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2011, will hold its 18th Congress this year - a gathering that will go down in the annals of the party and nation. His country’s recent notable achievements, he said, include the growth of the economy by 7.8 per cent in the first half of 2012 and the increase in incomes of urban and rural inhabitants by 9.7 per cent and 12.4 per cent, respectively.

Present at the event that saw the cutting of the anniversary cake were a number of Cameroonian dignitaries. These included the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, Amadou Ali, Issa Tchiroma Bakary of Communication, Finance Minister, Alamine Ousmane Mey, Gregoire Owona of Labour and Social Security, Patrice Amba Salla of Public Works, Youssouf Adidja Alim of Basic Education and the Secretary General in the Ministry of External Relations, Felix Mbayu.
