Floods Destroy Houses In Widikum

Administration is sizing up casualties as calm returns after heavy rains last weekend.

Diche I, one of Widikum’s four villages was on Saturday, October 6th, 2012 invaded by floods. The Sub-divisional Officer for Widikum Sub-division, Aneuren Mbuge blames the floods on heavy rains that poured on Widikum, in Donga and Mantung Divison of the North West Region in the night of Saturday.

At Press time yesterday October 8th, administrative authorities were still sizing up the casualties caused by the floods. The D.O, however, told Cameroon Tribune that he counted two houses destroyed in Diche I village while several other houses were affected but not destroyed.

Preoccupying the population yesterday was the problem of pupils and students without books, most of which were either soaked or carried away by the floods. The D.O, Aneuren Mbuge, says the floods did not spare household furniture, equipment and utensils like dishes, spoons and pots, amongst others. As Widikum grapples with the situation, inhabitants are on their knees praying to God and their ancestors to hold back the rains to avoid more trouble.
