Lionesses Intensify Training for Feminine AFCON

After the friendly against D.R. Congo, they resumed training at the Fecafoot Technical Centre in Yaounde.

The Indomitable Lionesses have resumed training at the Fecafoot Technical Centre in Odza-Yaounde after a brief trip to Kinshasa where they played a friendly encounter last Thursday October 18, against the local national female football selection. The Lionesses pulled a zero-all tie against the local side, the Simbas of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They returned to Yaounde on Saturday and went straight to the Fecafoot Technical Centre where they have been camping in preparation for the feminine Africa Cup of Nations to take place in Equatorial Guinea.
The Lionesses are scheduled to play two other friendly matches against South Africa and Ghana before departing for Equatorial Guinea on October 25. Both South Africa and Ghana are equally taking part in the 8th edition of the tournament to run from October 28th to November 14th. Both teams are expected to make a stopover in Cameroon on their way to Equatorial Guinea and the encounters with the Lionesses are geared to make all the teams fit for competition ahead of the kick off to the tournament. However, quizzed on the issue, the coach of the Indomitable Lionesses, said he was waiting for confirmation from football authorities whether the friendly matches will take place or not and evoked the possibility of facing a local opposition in the absence of a viable sparring partner.
Cameroon will join the competition on October 29 with an encounter against Nigeria in Bata. Their second outing in the competition will be on November 1st against Ivory Coast. On November 4th, Cameroon faces Ethiopia in the last group B encounter. Semifinal matches will take place in Malabo and Bata simultaneously; the classification match for the third place will take place on the 11th of November while the finals take place on the 14th. Cameroon is yearning for its first Africa Cup of Nations title in feminine football and stands a chance of lifting the challenge in Equatorial Guinea as feminine football has been on the crescendo as opposed to their male counterparts who have been witnessing a reversal of fortunes in all categories.
