Interpol: Congo Wants Post of African Delegate

The Director General of the Congolese Police campaigned in Yaounde on October 25.

The Republic of Congo is currently campaigning for its candidate, Police Colonel Ngampika Grebert to be elected to the post of African Delegate at the Executive Committee of the International Police Organisation (INTERPOL). The election into the world’s largest police organization with 190 member countries, will take place in Rome, Italy from November 5 to 8, 2012. The role of INTERPOL is to enable the police around the world to work together to make the world a safer place.

The Director General of the Congolese Police, Jean François Ndengue who doubles as the President of the Committee of Police Chiefs of Central Africa during a 48-hour visit in Yaounde that ended on October 25, had working sessions with senior Cameroon government officials, soliciting the country’s support for Congo’s candidate. The Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo granted the last audience to Jean François Ndengue before he left the country. The Director General of the Congolese Police earlier had working sessions with the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o and also a meeting in the INTERPOL office in down town, Yaounde. He also used the occasion to solicit cooperation between Cameroon and Congo with focus on Congolese Police staff being trained in Cameroon.

Minister Moukoko Mbonjo also had discussions with the British High Commissioner to Cameroon, Bharat Suresh Joshi during which they talked of bilateral relations between the two countries. Responding to journalists after the audience, Bharat Joshi said they used the occasion to talk about the Cameroon-British Joint Commission that will hold in Britain in 2013.

The Italian Ambassador, Stephano Pontesili and Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo used their audience which was the last in the series, to discuss ways of attracting Italian investors and making them part of the public works and infrastructure development being carried out in Cameroon. The diplomat also disclosed that they used the occasion to discuss political cooperation.
