University Of Buea Matriculates 6,700 Students

Female students warned to avoid unhealthy relations with lecturers and beer drinking.

For the first time in the 20-year history of the University of Buea (UB), 6,700 freshmen have been admitted into first year studies and spread through the various Faculties of the institution. Professor Nalova Lyonga, Vice Chancellor of UB, announced the figure as she chaired the 20th matriculation ceremony during which freshmen took oath of obedience and attachment to the institution of learning.

Of the number, some 1,397 are registered in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. The Vice Chancellor also revealed that the females were more in number this year which is a pointer to the rising trend of women enrolling in higher education. Owing to their swelling numbers, the Vice Chancellor warned against the current phenomenon of what she called "sexually transmitted marks" and indicated that she would personally watch against it. She urged any student victim of such a malpractice to report any incident to the hierarchy of the University.
In an academic discourse to the freshmen, caution was given to the new students to abide by all school rules, stay focused, take all assignments seriously and avoid heavy drinking habit that has of recent been noticed of students.

The Vice Chancellor praised the Mayor of the Buea Municipality for clearing the major street of Molyko of the multiple beer drinking spots diverting students' attention from studies. To welcome the new UB students, an inter-religious Service was conducted with Muslims, Presbyterians, Baptists and Catholics participating.
