David Kofona, a teenage street child, was picked up and whisked to custody by security forces in Douala for illegal possession of a locally-made gun.
On patrol around the vicinity of the Douala Reunification Stadium on November 12, the security officers, led by ESIR Inspector Aimee Caesar Tipe, were curious that the young man carried an unusually long nylon bag.
When he saw the policemen, David immediately took to his heels abandoning the nylon bag. Picking up the bag, the policemen discovered that it contained a locally-made gun and a sharp knife. The crime investigators then mounted a search in the area. David Kofana was caught at Marché New Deido.
He tried to trick the security officers but later admitted he was a street child having been dismissed from the Saint Nicolas Centre at Bépanda. With the locally-made gun, Kofana was taken to the Judicial Police in Bonanjo for further questioning.
