After terrorising Meme Division, they were planning to attack Buea by the end of this month.

A gang of armed bandits that had been terrorising Meme Division and environs was finally dismantled in the Fiango neighbourhood in Kumba on Friday, 9th November, 2012. The gang leader whose name CAMNEWS got as Egueh Bertrand was killed in Fiango during a 30-minute exchange of gunfire with the Rapid Police Intervention Unit (ESIR). On his dead body, police found two locally-made pistols.

Police sources disclosed that after killing the said gang leader Egueh Bertrand, they went into his bedroom and discovered a pistol with 17 bullets, 4 TV sets, 3 computers, 3 musical sets, 4 decks and 2 large speakers.

Meanwhile his accomplice, Nchonganyi Cyril Atem, 22, had earlier been arrested and was helping the police to show the hide out of their gang leader. In the process, he tried to escape with police handcuffs binding his hands. He was shot on the leg and gave up the ghost at the Kumba District Hospital on 11th November, 2012.

Before the death of Nchonganyi Cyril on 9th November, 2012, he confessed that they took part in the killing of a Nigerian boy at SATA Street Buea Road in Kumba last week. The gang also attacked two homes in Kossala and Fiango where they made away with close to FCFA 1 million from a cocoa buyer and snatched household items in the two homes. He said they had made a plan to rob homes in Buea, Muyuka, Limbe and Tiko by the end of this month. It should be noted that a fortnight ago, the same gang attacked Ikiliwindi village in Mbonge Sub-Division and succeeded in stealing two engine saws which are currently with the police in Kumba.

Police informed CAMNEWS that another accomplice, Achankeng Frankline Fonge, 24, is still in their custody where he has revealed that two accomplices of the gang are in Muyuka and Douala. He said the armed gang member in Muyuka is popularly known as "Rough Coin".
