Pedestrians and car owners halted for a moment around 3 pm on Wednesday November 20 along the road linking the Zoo and the new market in the Mvog Betsi neighbourhood in Yaounde, to watch the remains of a man being lifted out of the roadside gutter.

The man, whose names Cameroon Tribune gathered as Aboula André, had shivered for a few minutes and collapsed into the gutter about half an hour before. According to the deceased’s sister, Nga Tsala Rosalie, who rushed to the scene after receiving phone calls from relatives, Aboula André, aged 39, had just arrived the capital city five days earlier to pursue his treatment for tuberculosis. “He was returning from the Jamot Hospital when he collapsed here and died,” she said, in tears. At press time, elements of the Mvog Betsi Gendarmerie Brigade were already on the scene for investigations while the deceased’s remains were prepared for the mortuary.
