A State dinner was organised last week for Orlando Galveas Oliveira.
To mark the end of his almost three and half-year stay in Cameroon, the outgoing Brazilian Ambassador to Cameroon, Orlando Galveas Oliveira was on Thursday, November 22, 2012 given a State dinner that was hosted by the Minister of External Relations, Prof. Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo. The event took place at the Mont Febe Hotel, Yaounde.
Minister Moukoko recalled how relations and cooperation between the two countries had improved especially with the visit to Cameroon of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and President Paul Biya to Brazil. Cameroon, he said, had since opened an embassy in Brasilia while both countries continue to cooperate at different international levels.
The Minister of External Relations spoke of trade relations that have also been on the increase with the recent holding in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil of a Cameroon Economic Day. As the world’s largest cocoa producer and an emerging economic power, he said Brazil has been assisting Cameroon improve agricultural production and output. The Minister also mentioned scholarships that Brazil offers to Cameroonian students, noting that there was need for such cooperation to be intensified.
On his part, Ambassador Oliveira recalled how he felt at home in Cameroon during his tenure. During this time, high-level visits served as fillip for cooperation in the areas of trade, telecommunications, agriculture, education, sports and culture. Ambassador Orlando Galveas Oliveira described the future of relations between Brazil and Cameroon as bright because of the latter’s strategic position in the Central African Sub-region. He was decorated by Minister Moukoko with the country’s highest honour, the Grand Officer of National Orders.
Also present at the event were the Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the Technical Adviser in the Division for Diplomatic Affairs at the Presidency, Assene Nkou née Marie-Yvette Koloko, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in charge of Rural Development, Ananga Messina Clementine and the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele.
