Results of the Second Vatican Council in Rome were presented on November 28 in Yaounde.
Results of the colloquium on the 50 years of the Second Vatican Council in Rome and the Synod on the New Evangelisation were presented on Wednesday November 28 at the Catholic University of Central Africa (UCAC) in Nkolbisson, Yaounde.
The presentation comes on the heels of two major events in the history of the Catholic Church. The events are the celebration in Rome in October 2012 of the Golden Jubilee of the Second Vatican Council and the reflection on the new evangelisation of the church. Two lecturers of the institution took part in both events. Last Wednesday’s event was therefore an opportunity for the students of the institution and the public to be edified on the message of the Second Vatican Council. The event was presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio for Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, H.E. Mgr. Piero Pioppo.
The audience listened to three presentations on topics such as “The contribution of the church in Africa during the Second Vatican Council”. One of the speakers, Professor Jean-Paul Messina, reminded the public of the late Mgr Jean Zoa who was a member of the commission to study situation of the church in Africa and in the world and the major decisions taken in the conference. The audience also watched slides of the meeting in Rome.
The second presentation by Professor Joseph Ndi-Okala, Vice Rector UCAC dwelled on the topic “From Vatican II to Synod on New evangelisation: ecclesiastical jubilee and perspectives”. The President of the Cameroon Episcopal Conference Mgr Joseph Atanga was also an expert on the Synod on New Evangelisation and the third speaker. “After this restitution we hope it will be a renewal of method of evangelisation in the Central African Sub region,” he said.
For the Archbishop of Yaounde, Mgr Victor Tonye Bakot, preaching the gospel is the preoccupation of the church. He said the new evangelisation is a new method of preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to help Christians to deepen their faith in God.
