International experts and guests forthe upcoming National Communication Forum slated from 5-7 December, 2012 have begun arriving inthe capital city,Yaounde. On Saturday December 1, 2012, the former Secretary General of the International Organisation of the Francophonie, Jean Louis Roy, arrived at the YaoundeNsimalen, International airport from France to participate in the Forum. Speaking to Cameroon Tribune a few minutes after his arrival, he said he was interested in press-related questions for he had spent ten years in a Canadian newspaper called “Le Devoir”. He hinted that issues for discussion during the National Communication Forum are topical everywhere.

While noting that the trendy move by newspapers from print to the electronic versions was inevitable, Jean Louis Roy said, like elsewhere, professionals in Cameroon were preoccupied with searching ways for a better organisation of the profession. The arrival of another expert in communication, French-born Hervé Bourges, has been announced for today Monday December 03, 2012.

Meanwhile, at the Ministry of Communication and the Forum’s organising committee, preparations are gearing up for a hitch-free three-day eventto hold at the Conference Centre in Yaounde. Major highlights last week were the appointed of members of the scientific commission to be headed by Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo. The membership cuts across all professions in the communication sector. According to the Executive Coordinator of the Organising Committee, Dr Felix Zogo, the appointment of members of the commission marks the last turn in the preparations and signs of seriousness that will characterise the sessions. 130 members who make up the commission will be divided into nine workshops of 14 members each. They will act as thematic supervisors ensuring that debates and timing are respected. Dr Felix Zogosaid the appointment of eminent personalities and university dons with enough charisma, intellect and authority was to ensure that they willwork with professionals who will be bring field experience into debates. At the end of each day, the commission members will be expected to do reports in collaboration with moderators and rapporteurs. They will all meet at the end of the Forum to brew resolutions to give communication a facelift.

In another domain, the Minister of communication, IssaTchiromaBakary on Thursday in Yaounde received the draft Code of ethics and deontology from an 18-man working group comprised of journalists from public and private press. The blueprint will serve as working document for the adoption of a Code of Ethics and Deontology to instill order in the communication domain.
