Military Officers Amid Gang

The robbers terrorised neighbourhoods and assaulted Douala city dwellers.

Police of the Rapid Intervention Unit in Douala have dismantled a gang of six armed bandits specialized in assaulting Douala city dwellers and robbing them of important items.

The mixed gang of soldiers and armed hoodlums terrorised neighbourhoods and assaulted people spotted with money and valuable property at the Nkololoun neighbourhood.

Acting on an informant’s tip the police, dispatched to the area led by Inspector Robert Daouda, dismantled the gang and brought to book the unlawful criminals. Last Friday four of the six-member armed gang were arrested.

Upon interrogation, two of the four armed robbers; Manga Mballa and Roger Sakou, who were in military uniform, proved to be military men working with the Air Force in the port city of Douala. The robbers; Manga Mballa, Aoudou Aboubakar, Adalbi and Roger Sakou were being whisked to the Central Police Station No.1 in Bonanjo when one of them, Roger Sakou, jumped from the Police van and meandered in escape between the built-up graves of the Douala New Bell cemetery that night.

The armed robbers had assaulted a series of persons but only two of them, Abdouraman Baba Sale and Oumarou Adoum accepted to make depositions as the others feared reprisals. They declared the disappearance of the sum of CFA 13.000 F and their two mobile phones of mark LG and Alcatel. The three suspects left were taken to the Central Police Station No.1 in Bonanjo as they help the Police to completely demolish the gang.
