Police Force Reforms Explained In The North West

Sixteen presidential decisions transforming the corps were published recently.

Recent presidential texts that re-organised the police force were topical in Bamenda on December 3, 2012. The goodness of the texts, some of which carry special status for the policemen and women was explained by the Permanent Secretary in the General Delegation of National Security, Ndoki Victor who took time off to stress that the texts come to lift the image of the Corps to better serve as a proximity police force in fighting criminality.

The texts, all signed by the Head of State in November, 2012, introduce risk and cleanliness allowances, code of deontology and the creation of new units that inspire hope and obligations. The texts provide opportunities for progress within the Corps with the possibility of a hardworking and disciplined Constables rising to the rank of a Superintendent of Police. The 16 texts also constitute a measure for discipline, performance, professionalism and oblige personnel to stand by ethical behaviour.

The texts equally require probity from personnel with special allowances to keep their uniforms neat and away from acts that soil the image of the corps like harassments and corruption. The Permanent Secretary, Ndoki Victor, said it was the effort of President Biya to give the police force a new look and a fresh push with texts that empower and make them proud and committed to serve the nation. He stressed the need for a new chapter with discipline reigning supreme in the backdrop of glaring demonstration of faith in the police corps by the Head of State and the Delegate General for National Security.

Police men and women in respective ranks later filed out with thank you messages and pledges to rise to expectation in best practices. They appreciated the Head of State for showcasing goodness towards personnel of the police force, extension of their retirement ages and texts that make the police force the place to be.
