Unity Palace School Lights Christmas Tree

During the event yesterday, pupils of the school received Christmas gifts from their Matron, Mrs Chantal Biya.

Pupils of “Les Coccinelles Primary School Complex at the Unity Palace and their Matron, Cameroon’s First Lady, Chantal Biya yesterday December 18 graced event to mark the 2012 Christmas party at the school premises around an embellished Christmas tree that reflected the colour of the season. The over 100 pupils at the school together with visiting children at the feast crowded their dear mother, “Mama Chantal” around the Christmas tree as she plucked sweets from the tree and distributed to them. The First Lady happily plucked sweets from the tree to the appreciation of parents, dignitaries and particularly pupils who were happy to be at the receiving end. As Chantal Biya made her way out of the ceremonial ground, the rest of the population reached out to the tree to have their own share of the Christmas sweets.
The colourful and special decor at the premises of the school complex, coupled with the arrival of the First Lady signaled a great Christmas party for the kids who welcomed their Matron with a song titled, “Christmas is around”. The pupils of the State House School showed how happy they are with the approach of another Christmas season which they said is full of pleasant surprises. Through songs and sketches, they said Christmas is a season to receive gifts and indeed the pupils each received Christmas gifts from their Matron and “Cherie Mama”, Chantal Biya. Even old pupils of the school as well as visiting kids at the ceremony also went back home with a special parcel from the First Lady. Christmas carols, dance, souvenir pictures and Christmas goodies alongside a common meal highlighted the traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the school complex. Also present were some Members of Government.
Like little angels, singing “Mary’s Boy Child: Jesus Christ,” the pupils thrilled the audience to some angelic and exhilarating Christmas songs which did not only draw thunderous applauds from the crowd, but also pushed everybody swaying the body to the rhythm of celebration.” In succinct displays, the kids, in the official languages, French and English, revealed to their audience that they master the social and biblical meanings of Christmas. Local artists such as Denis Naafa and Thierry Lamy joined the kids in celebrating the event which equally gave Madame Biya an opportunity to inspect the various performances of the pupils in their different classes equipped with computers and video projectors offered by IAI Cameroon.
