Some 20 home-based players have been called up for a detection camp in Mbankomo near Yaounde.

After trips to Britain to chat with some runaway players of the national team, the coach of the Indomitable Lions, Jean Paul Akono continues his search for new talents on the home front with a detection camp scheduled for the CAF Excellence Centre in Mbankomo-Yaounde from December 27th to 30th. According to communiqué convening the players, the camp is open to professional footballers on holidays in Cameroon who have never been called up to the national selection.

The bulk of the shortlisted players come from Coton Sport and Union Douala with five players each in the selection. Unisport has four while New Stars and Canon Yaounde have two players each. Astres and Renaissance of Ngoumou have one player each in the selection.

The detection process is to enable the coach put in place a conquering squad for the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup to take place in Brazil. Prior to the next official outing of the Lions, there will be a friendly match against Kenya on February 2013 to better prepare the team for the qualifying series of the World Cup due to begin in March.

There is no margin of error for the Indomitable Lions when the qualifying matches begin given that Cameroon in a precarious position. Cameroon occupies the third position with three points behind Libya in the first position on four points and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the second position with three points also but with the latter having a better goal difference than Cameroon. Togo is last in group I with barely one point.
