Thousands Bid Farewell To Henry Njalla Quan

The late CDC General Manager was buried in his native Bimbia on Saturday, December 29.

Henry Njalla Quan, an iconic compatriot, General Manager of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), the second largest employer after the State, who passed to the world beyond on 13 December in Limbe, has been laid to rest.

Among the thousands of mourners who turned out at the the Limbe Community Field to bid farewell to Njalla Quan was the personal representative of President Paul Biya in the person of the Grand Chancellor of the National Orders, Peter Mafany Musonge.

President Paul Biya’s condolence message to the bereaved family was read by the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako, Zang III, in which he said Cameroon has lost an illustrious citizen who was a committed General Manager, Central Committee member of the ruling CPDM party, sports promoter and a music lover. The indelible legacy Njalla Quan has left behind in the CDC, the CPDM and sports, earned him a state recognition as he was posthumously decorated by the Grand Chancellor with the dignity of the Grand Officer of the Cameroon Order of Valour.

All the eulogies presented at Njalla Quan’s funeral were all unanimous in testimony to the kind of life the deceased lived. He was described as a dedicated, selfless, humble, generous, humorous and down to earth worker, politician, Christian, sportsman and socialist.

Born on March 12 1949 in Victoria, Henry Njalla Quan, a Mechanical Engineer served in the Ports Authority in Doaula where he rose to the rank of Director. In 1996, he was appointed pioneer Government Delegate to the then Limbe Urban Council and two years later he was again appointed as the General Manager of the CDC, where he served for 14 years before he took ill on May 14 2012 and his eventual demise on 13 December. He leaves behind his wife, four children, friends and sympathisers to mourn him.

Meanwhile, the death of the General Manager of PAMOL Plc, Chief Obi-Okpun Wanobi was reported on Friday 28 December, 2012 in his Limbe hotel room hours before PAMOL’s Board meeting.
