The draft budget for 2013 was adopted recently during the second ordinary session of the City Council.

The amelioration of road infrastructure, construction of markets, the improvement of the automobile park, ensuring access to clean portable water and electricity amongst others are some of the projects that would gulp part of the FCFA 4,500,000,000 Limbe City Council Budget for 2013 as investment representing 40 percent of the budget. The budget that is balanced in income and expenditure at FCFA 4.5 billion, according to the Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, Motanga Andrew Monjimba, reflects the values and priorities of the municipality and its people.

“Our priorities shall be on mastering our resources. The Council intends to intensify revenue collection but above all diversify its revenue base”, Motanga said while presenting the draft 2013 budget which was overwhelmingly adopted by all Senior Councillors.

The recurrent expenditure stands at FCFA 2.7 billion represents 60 per cent of the entire budget while FCFA 1.8 billion representing 40 per cent is earmarked for investment expenditure among which will include the first phase of the construction of a historical museum, acquisition of land, equipements and for the development of gardens as well as hygiene and sanitation.

CT also gathered that the Limbe City Council would get FCFA 7.5 million from government ministerial department being fall out accruing from the decentralized services.

Speaking during session, the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Fako, Zang III who is the supervisory authority, pointed out that councils are set up to improve on the living conditions of the population reason why government is paying a lot of attention to the decentralization process. Mr. Zang opined that more emphasis should be laid on investment so that the budget should effectively represent the aspiration of the population. The SDO urged the Limbe City Council authorities to step up fight against clandestine transportation, criminality within the municipality and ban the rampant proliferation of religious congregations.

He also exhorted them to intensify hygiene and sanitation as well as mobilize the population for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cameroon’s Reunification. The SDO recommended concerted effort in order to achieve the action plan for 2013. The second ordinary session consecrated to the adoption of the budget for 2013 was also a veritable opportunity for the eighteen Senior Councillors to denounce detractors whom they say wants to destabilize the Limbe City Council.

A motion of support and loyalty concluded the session that was also witnessed by traditional rulers and other members of the public.
