Clubs Brace-up For New Football Season

They have been recruiting, playing friendly tournaments and training arduously.

As the date for the beginning of the new football season approaches, clubs have been intensifying preparations so as to be fit when the championship commences. To make up for the lack of competition following the end of the season and the delay in the holding of the Cup final, clubs officials have initiated tournaments at the regional level to keep their players fit for competition.

In the Centre Regions, clubs like Tonnerre, Canon and Jeunesse Sportive of Ngoulemakong, played friendly matches with the selection of Lions who took part in a training camp in Mbankomo recently and are equally engaged in the ‘Friendship Tournament’ regrouping clubs from the Centre region. In Douala, a ‘Solidarity Tournament’ is equally taking place involving clubs from the Littoral Region. Meanwhile the Fraternity Tournament’ of the West region was won by the winner of the Cup of Cameroon this year, Unisport.

Coton Sport changed coaches and have been training frantically to reclaim the championship title, attain the group stage of the African Champion League. Panthere equally involved in continental competitions, has been touring the country, and multiplying friendly matches to be afoot.

Meanwhile at the level of the Professional League, the calendar of competitions has been established already and officials will be designated as the championships progress. A plan meeting between the league officials and government concerning the request of clubs for an increase in subventions, has been postponed. Besides an increase in government subventions, the League officials have been exploring avenues for more revenues for football clubs in the country.

As such special incentives were provided in the new finance law granting tax reductions and exonerations to companies to enable them have more funds to sponsor football activities. The president of the League, General Pierre Semengue announced the creation of an organ to pry into the management of clubs to ensure accountability and transparency in the management of funds from government and sponsors.
