Salesmen say there was rupture in supply last week and not everybody has been served this week.

Motorists in Yaounde yesterday January 3 witnessed an interruption in fuel supply, notably the “Super” type. In fact, the precious liquid was non-existent in some filling stations while others had what observers described as “reserves.”

At some filling stations in Yaounde, Cameroon Tribune observed that where the liquid existed, there was an unprecedented influx of vehicles for fear of the unknown. This was the case at Camoco in Etoug-ebe, Oilibya in Carrefour Biyem-assi and Olezoa, MRS in Obili and Neptune in Ecole de Poste. The salesmen there readily told CT that fuel was available but declined commenting further on whether or not it was from their reserves. “I am just a salesman and am here to sell and not to comment,” a sales lady at the Etoug-ebe neighbourhood who refused to be named said.

Meanwhile, at Tradex filling station in Vogt and MRS in Mvog-Atangana Mballa on the Mvan road, motorists had not had any petroleum supply for almost two days. At Vogt, a filling station attendant told CT that the problem began on Tuesday January 2, 2013 and that it was supposed to be general. He said filling stations still in possession of the fuel were mostly those on the outskirts of the town and were already tapping from their reserves. His peer at MRS in Mvog-Atangana Mballa corroborated him, stressing that the “problem is as a result of a rupture in supply last week. “When supply resumed, not all stations were served,” he said.

As at press time yesterday, the situation was still to normalise as customers ran towards filling stations that still had fuel to refill their tanks and survive should the situation persists. “Tell me where I can rush and buy the Super fuel before the situation gets worse,” a friend called and told me at the time of writing this article.
