The Head of the UN Integrated Peace-building Office was at the External Relations Ministry.

The Head and Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the UN Integrated Peace-building Office in the Central African Republic (BINUCA), Margaret Vogt on January 7, 2013 discussed with Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo the current political crisis rocking the Central African Republic, CAR.

Discussions in Yaounde came on the morrow of talks slated for the Gabonese capital, Libreville that will bring together rebels seeking to topple the government of President François Bozizé and government officials aimed at negotiating a peaceful way out of the crisis. Speaking to the press after meeting the External Relations Minister, Margaret Vogt said she came to thank the government of Cameroon for receiving and catering for her after her evacuation from the Central African Republic in the heart of the conflict.

She said BINUCA has been moved to Cameroon. The UN official used the occasion to also thank the Cameroon government on behalf of UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon for sending 120 soldiers to beef up the force of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) working to maintain and preserve peace in CAR. The UN Integrated Peace-building Office in the Central African Republic that operates under the mandate of the UN Security Council, has as mission to consolidate peace and national reconciliation, strengthen democratic institutions and mobilise international political support and resources for national reconstruction and economic recovery. It also ensures the coherence of peace-building support activities by the various UN entities present in the country.
